The mention of horseradish reminds me of wasabi, the indispensable accompaniment to sushi. Wasabi or Japanese horseradish is, as people who have tried, extremely strong and invigorating. It's also warm in nature and is suitable for cold weather in moderation. But note that fresh wasabi is very hard to come by outside of Japan and the paste form which is more commonly available has very low percentage of wasabi essence.
